Tips for Your Whitening Pens and Custom Whitening Trays

Our products supplier gave us a great tip for how to get maximum use from your portable teeth whitening pens: Her favorite way to whiten her teeth is to use her whitening pen to brush a coating of the 33% carbamide peroxide gel to the front of all teeth that are visible when you smile—then she pops on her custom whitening trays for 20-30 minutes to keep the gel in place and whitening for as long as possible. She finds it easier than applying gel from her syringe into the whitening trays.

Standard instructions for Shine whitening pens are to apply the gel to your teeth and then keep your lips and tongue away from your teeth for 30 seconds to give the gel time to dry. That’s a handy way to get some quick portable whitening, to offset the effects of coffee and cola, etc. But Tiffanie’s tip makes the whitening action last longer and is actually even more convenient than waiting for your teeth to dry, as long as you’re at home or gym or somewhere that you have quick access to your whitening trays.

This trick would work with any style trays, and brushing the gel to your teeth instead of filling the tray would actually make any style of tray more effective. However, our custom fit trays, since they are thin, flexible, fit your teeth snugly and delineate the gumline is the most comfortable and effective way to use this quick whitening tip.

My own trick for the whitening pens: When I apply whitening gel to my trays with the standard syringe, I then open the whitening pen and use the brush tip to spread the gel evenly to the front of the tray and to make sure I get ample coverage to the area between the teeth where staining most often occurs. I love this trick, because it lets me assure even coverage with as little gel as possible (to conserve the gel and to make more certain there’s no excess gel coming out of the top of the tray and touching my gums). Remember, just a little gel is plenty—just the size of the head of a match is plenty to cover the front surface of each of your teeth. Although our wholesale prices are extremely cheap, the retail price of the gel is typically fairly expensive–$20 and up per syringe. There’s no extra credit for burning your gums.

Your clients will appreciate this tip for getting the maximum use and comfort from their whitening products. And you are sure to become the go-to source for their professional whitening gel and products from then on, regardless of the whitening trays they already own or whether they’re purchasing the custom whitening trays we’re providing from Shine. Happy whitening!
